POTATOES

(2024)

In this project two worlds collide to create a suspended potato- based biomaterial sculpture, inspired by design and gastronomy. The potato is the key ingredient in this product, often undervalued, cheap and simple. The inflated potato products are displayed in a human size immersive installation, composed of dozens/ hundreds of small potato-shaped « soufflés ».

I decided to work with a special focus on potato starch playing with textures, material combinations, transparency and presentation to create a seemingly floating organic potato field. To enhance and highlight the beauty of the potato and the transformed bio-product, I associated it with recycled copper tubes and lights to ennoble the final outcome. I use the semi- precious metal, in reference to its frequent presence in the gastronomic environment, to create the structure of the potato field.

In the right context the installation is made to welcome clients to a restaurant/ food stand. They will be surrounded by the same product that they will consume. The people will be faced with a unique visual experience as if immersed in a stock of potatoes or in a field. The focus of this project is to elevate cheap products and use waste as a resource.
