SALT CRYSTALS AND METAL OXYDATION

This installation represents a study around growing salt crystals and controlling metal (coper and steel) oxidayion.

The structures represent a cave environment, underwater space where crystals are slowly growing on sea shape inspired objects. Drops off water saturated with salt fall from the ceiling using a simple system to shows in a dynamic way how time influences a project.

The materials are all recycled pieces except the metal wire. The salt used for growing the crystals is sea salt from south of France (Camargue), specially selected for its origin, its price and its quality to create fluffy crystals.

Through the whole process I was confronted with and researching the concept of value. I consider that time, work and materials together create the value of one object.
If it is grown by itself, it naturally creates a lot of value because of the concept of time needed for becoming a final product. This installation shows people that value is not always something beautiful and shiny, but can also look simple, flat, neutral, created with cheap materials embellished with time and growth.
